Order for your table

Mix dishes rather than making every choice a spicy challenge. Ask about portion size and ingredients before ordering. In a hotpot restaurant, a divided pot may offer different broths, but shared equipment still matters if you have allergies or dietary restrictions.

Make dietary needs specific

Carry a clear Chinese explanation of any serious allergy and ask about sauces, oils and stocks as well as visible ingredients. “Not spicy”, vegetarian and allergy-safe are different requests. Do not rely on a photograph or an automatic menu translation as a guarantee.
