Choose a base, not just a room

The right neighbourhood can save more travel time than a longer list of hotel amenities.

Work backwards from your days

Map the places you expect to visit, your arrival point and your departure. Compare actual walking and transport connections rather than choosing only by star rating. In Chengdu, metro access and evening noise are useful considerations. Near a scenic area, check the distance to the actual entrance and the availability of onward transport.

Confirm the stay details

Before paying, confirm the property and Chinese address, guest-document arrangements, room occupancy and beds, breakfast, luggage storage, payment and cancellation conditions. If you need a lift, step-free access or a particular service language, ask specifically rather than relying on a broad facility label.
