An itinerary idea, ready to adapt to your pace and travel arrangements.
Before departure · fix the two ends
Choose rail with a local connection or a return driver. Confirm the scenic-area entry gate and the return station or pickup point before leaving Chengdu. Save both addresses in Chinese and check the actual train or driver confirmation. Keep the irrigation site as the main visit rather than adding Qingcheng or a panda attraction to fill the day.
Morning · follow the engineering story
Use the site’s current visitor route to connect Baopingkou, Feishayan and the Fish Mouth where open. Stop to understand where the water divides and how sediment is managed. Add a guide if historical context matters to you. Walking order and crossings depend on the open entrances and on-site instructions, not a rigid schedule printed here.
Afternoon · a meal and the riverside
Continue into the old-town area for lunch and a shorter walk towards South Bridge if the route suits your exit. Choose a restaurant by its menu and your dietary needs. Leave room to sit rather than turning the afternoon into another checklist. If you stay until evening, recheck the return connection before settling in.
Return · leave a workable margin
Allow time to reach the station or meet the driver, including any queues and local traffic. This is an independent itinerary idea: admissions, rail tickets, guiding, food and vehicles require separate arrangements. In a service inquiry, include your Chengdu hotel and whether you want to return there or continue to another overnight base.
