Jiuzhaigou, with room to breathe
An arrival day, a park day and an onward day, without squeezing everything into one transfer.
A region of varied landscapes where altitude, road time and local context shape the journey.

Aba is a large prefecture, not one compact sightseeing area. Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong and the Siguniang area should be considered as separate travel bases. Compare the actual road connections and overnight locations before linking them. A private car does not remove the need for realistic travel days.
Choose the first nights with altitude in mind and allow a gentler start. Seek medical advice if altitude is a concern for you. Ask before photographing people or entering religious spaces; follow local guidance on access and behaviour. Check current conditions for every specific valley and route.
Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong and Songpan make a northern travel cluster. Siguniang and its three valleys form a different journey through the southwest of the prefecture. Ruoergai’s grasslands add another region rather than a quick stop between them. Start with the places you most want to experience, then connect overnight bases on an actual road map.
A shuttle-assisted valley visit does not provide the preparation needed for a summit or a crossing. Decide which valley entrance and activity you mean when asking for a guide. Share your walking experience, overnight altitude and equipment needs. Before committing, confirm current registration rules and whether the provider covers the precise activity, not simply the destination name.
Tibetan and Qiang communities are part of a living region. Ask before photographing people or entering homes and religious spaces. Use a local guide when language or access needs interpretation, and confirm whether a visit is genuinely arranged with the host. Keep village visits separate from roadside photo stops when planning your day.
