Chengdu, one teahouse at a time
A relaxed city day around People’s Park, neighbourhood food and the Kuanzhai area.
Parks, teahouses and neighbourhood meals. Leave a little of your day unplanned.

Begin around People’s Park and give yourself time for tea before exploring nearby streets. Kuanzhai Alleys can fit into the same city day, with a meal in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Add a taxi or metro ride when the route becomes tiring rather than treating every stop as a walking connection.
For a short city stay, compare metro access, evening noise and the transfer from your actual arrival station or airport. A hotel’s address matters more than a broad “city centre” label. Keep panda visits and longer excursions on separate days if you prefer a slower pace; confirm attraction entry arrangements before travelling.
People’s Park and Kuanzhai Alleys fit a day of tea and older streets. Wuhou Shrine and Jinli form a separate southwest city outing, with the historical visit before the evening lanes. Daci Temple and the Chunxi Road–Taikoo Li area combine a temple setting with contemporary shops and cafés. Choose one cluster at a time rather than crossing the city repeatedly.
The Chengdu Research Base and Panda Valley in Dujiangyan are different places with separate booking arrangements. For the Chengdu base, check the official ticket page, the visitor name and passport details, your entry session and the gate for your transport. Carry the document used for the reservation. Leave the rest of the day flexible rather than promising a fixed sequence of animal sightings.
Build one meal around a bowl of noodles or wontons, another around dishes to share, and keep hotpot for a time when you can linger. Ask which broths contain beef fat, which dishes use peanuts or sesame, and whether a vegetarian request also excludes stock and animal fat. A Chinese ingredient note helps more than simply asking for “not spicy”.
A relaxed city day around People’s Park, neighbourhood food and the Kuanzhai area.
City life first, mountain scenery next, with travel days given the space they need.
One focused excursion from Chengdu, with time to understand the irrigation site and sit down for a local meal.
Walk from Wuhou Shrine into Jinli’s lantern-lined lanes, pause for Sichuan snacks and make a relaxed half-day of Chengdu’s history and street life.
Sit down, order slowly and let the city carry on around you.
Explore flavour, texture and neighbourhood meals at a pace that suits your appetite.
The right neighbourhood can save more travel time than a longer list of hotel amenities.
Compare a park-side base, a shopping district and a quieter cultural quarter before comparing hotel rooms.
